Reeves Brook Loop is a beautiful loop through Harriman State Park, which is the second largest state park in New York State with over 200 miles of hiking trails. The trail offers gentle streams and waterfalls, as well as one fun scramble to reach our view point.

Their pit is fed with oak and apple woods to give our BBQ a nice balanced smokiness, a favorite in the NY Metro area. The address is 32 Orange Ave, Suffern, NY 10901.

The Stairway to Heaven Trail in Vernon, NJ is a popular hike that takes you out and back along boardwalks, farms, dirt paths, and some boulders. The majority of the hike is relatively flat until the last couple of miles where we ascend and descend Wawayanda Mountain. The view at the top is totally worth the climb!

Hunter Mountain via Becker Hollow Trail is 5 mile out-and-back trail with a partial loop at the summit. The overall hike is short, but very steep with an elevation gain of 2,400 feet. Once we reach the top, we will be at an elevation of 4,000 ft and have access to the Hunter Mountain Fire Tower. Climb this and you will get one of the best views in the Catskills.

Your guide will take you on a spooky walk along the beautiful historic trails of Rockefeller State Park. These grounds are known for the legends of the Headless Horseman and Hulda the Witch, both rooted in the history of the Revolutionary War. There are also old Native American tales that have been passed down from generation to generation in the area. We will share these stories with you and more as we walk along some old carriage roads.

If you are looking for a quick and easy hike with great views, then this one is it! Overall, the climb up to the viewpoint on Hook Mountain is not a challenging one. The steepest part of the trail is right at the beginning and it levels out fairly quickly. The majority of the trail is a mix of dirt and small rocks that make the hike easy going. The total elevation gain is about 900 feet with rewarding cliffside views of the Hudson River and the surrounding Hudson Valley. Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be kept on leash.

Difficulty: 5/10

Distance: 4.2 miles

Brookside Tavern & Smokehouse is a 10 minute drive from the trailhead. This place is a traditional American pub with local craft beers, great bbq, and outdoor seating. I can personally vouch for their delicious wings!

Sam's Point Loop is a beautiful hike that offers waterfalls, one of a few ridge-top dwarf pine barrens in the world, lakeside views, dense forests, and cliffs that open up to spectacular views. This area is considered a National Natural Landmark and was labeled as one of "Earth's Last Great Places" by the Nature Conservancy. This is a long and demanding hike, but totally worth it! Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be kept on leash. Note: The parking lot opens at 9am and requires a $10 entrance fee.

Distance: 8.5 miles

The Horse and Sulky is a 20 minute drive south from Sam’s Point trailhead (on the way back to Westchester County). This is a fun pub with a casual environment and great food and drinks. A perfect spot for post-hike grub.

Mt. Beacon Fire Tower Trail is an out and back trail located near Beacon, New York that will give you a great workout with rewarding views. Most of the trail is at about a 20-40 degree incline and leads to a fire tower on top of the mountain. Those brave enough to climb to the top of the tower will get a stunning 360 degree view of the Hudson Valley. Even if you do not climb to the top of the tower, you will have a grand view of the valley. Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be kept on leash.

Breakneck Ridge Trail is the hike of all hikes in the Hudson Valley. This 3.7 mile looped trail will send you scrambling up a rocky incline within the first 5 minutes. You are rewarded with spectacular views of the Hudson River as you climb to an elevation of approximately 1,200 feet. The trail descends steadily through the forest on a less rocky terrain. Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be kept on leash.

Round Up Texas BBQ is a 10 minute drive from Breakneck Ridge trailhead. This place is a simple hidden gem that offers brisket, ribs, beer, wine, and more. 

As stated in their website, “Route 9 seems an unlikely location for Texas-style dry-rubbed, hickory-smoked brisket (marbled or lean), sausage (spicy or mild) and ribs so tender the meat barely clings to the bone, but Round Up Texas BBQ is the real deal.”

Anthony's Nose from Bear Mountain Bridge Road is a great beginner hike! This is a relatively short hike with a steep initial ascent of about 700 feet. The majority of the trail is through forest until we reach the peak of Anthony’s Nose, which opens up to an amazing view of the Hudson River and Bear Mountain Bridge. Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be kept on leash.
